Over the weekend

I invited my family for lunch on Saturday. Now, I know how to cook curry, got the blinder hung up and the pc updated to Windows 7 and updated to be faster (RAM added). :D Yup, I have got a very "handyman" family. Hahaha.

It's not that difficult to cook curry after all.

All you need is:
1) 1 packet of chilli paste mixture (chilli, garlic and lemon grass) that you can get in the market.
2) 1 packet of *Aligappas* Curry Fish Powder
3) curry flower (bunga kantan)
4) Coconut milk
5) about 900gm of fish (stingray is a good choice)
6) about 10 pcs of Ladies fingers
7) 1 piece of onion
8) 1 1/4 cup of water of tamarind juice

Firstly, pour some oil into the pot and once it's hot, throw in the onion and stir around. Then, put in the (1) item. Mix it around then start to put in (2) item spoon by spoon. Throw in the curry flower. Once you smell the wonderful aroma, add in the tamarind juice. Let it simmer for a while. Throw in the ladies fingers and close lid, give it some time to soften. Next, put in the fish. Once the fish is in, be gentle while you stir. As they are very tender. Lastly, add the coconut milk. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, add salt to taste and voila! It's done! :)

I forgot to take picture of the curry! >.< *bang head on wall* Fret not, I will definitely take some pictures when I cook it again, by myself this time! :D

Bamboo Blinder hung up. Very lovely indeed! :D

New toy in the kitchen

To store this! :) It fits nicely, 5 kgs

My soon-to-be 1 year old doggie (in two days' time), Evey!
All clean and fluffy :)

Steven and I went for a movie with H and BN - "The King's Speech". The cinema was not packed, only the 4 of us and a few pairs of Caucasians. 3 things that warmed my heart regarding the movie:
1) Determination and motivation can push a person to go beyond their limits
2) Life experience and knowledge can outshine paper credentials
3) How the friendship blossomed in the oddest and unconventional way between 2 persons whom were not even supposed to cross path under normal circumstances.

Another endeavour

It has been almost the 3rd month of fervent search. I think I have finally found it! The blinds for our window! It's just right in price as well as size. I can't believe I didn't think of it before this! I could get 2 units instead of one big one. Standard sizes are 92 X 100 and 132 X 100.

So here it is.. all that's left to do is to fix them up! *grin*

Bamboo Blinds

Last weekend, I whipped up another meal, I surprise myself sometimes with my *ahemz* cooking skills. :D Steven wanted to cook us his special recipe fried noodle, but he got so caught up with work and decided to give me the opportunity to strut my stuff instead. ;P

A simple dinner for 2.
Fried noodles instead of rice

Stir-fry mixed vegetables

Steamed fish

The whole dinner cost a bit under RM15. Not bad at all! :)

My First Time...

Today was my first time to cook a proper Chinese lunch, the type Cantonese call "Sam Soong, Yat Thong. Pat Fan Yam Chong", literally translated to 3 dishes and 1 soup, white rice all you can eat.

I went to the market down the road right after I sent Steven out at 9:15am. Got some garnish and a couple of drumsticks and meat for the soup. I already have all the other ingredients over the weekend.

Halfway through, I decided, even though the taste may be horrendous, the look must be there! Akakaka...

A couple of blunders...
1. while stir-frying the vegetable, I suddenly realize that I do not own a bottle opener. I stared at the oyster sauce, then the fish... oops. Funny thoughts come to mind, finally I used a can opener to open the bottle cap of the oyster sauce out of desperation. Haha!
2. After popping the fish into a DIY steamer and the egg into the rice-pot steamer, I realize I also do not own an oven mitts or a plate-grabber to remove the hot plate from steamer. Ooops... my poor hands.

All in all, I am pleased with the results of how the food looked! :D

Eco-Brown rice was nicely cooked, not too hard or soft.

Brain Tonic Soup

Stir Fry Mixed Vegetable

Steamed Fish

Steamed Egg with mushroom and carrot

The lunch - sneak preview!

The taste and look was approved by Steven! Yippie! Haha! It wasn't that difficult after all!

It lasted till dinner...

TADA! All gone.

*bowed and curtsied* Xie xie... xie xie...! :D

Happy Chinese New Year 2011

Kong Hei Fatt Choy!!!

We just celebrated Chinese New Year 2011. Today is the 9th day. This year is different for us as we now are considered "adults" and have to distribute angpows to our single and unmarried relatives and friends. I notice some difference in the kids these days. They are very much shy-er to wish their "elders". Oh well... :D

Reunion at mom's house on the 1st day of CNY. On the second day of CNY, all the married daughters will return to makan at their parents' house (we decided to improvise and do it on the 1st day for dinner instead). Yummy and delicious!

This year, we also hosted some friends in our house for Chinese New Year.

Steven gave E.T angpow

E.T is soo sweet, he baked us some mini cakes with a French name which I cannot recall now. *blush*

It was great fun, thank God our neighbours are kind enough not to report us for the noise pollution. :D It was nice to catch up and play some games in the house. Oh ya, and I got locked in the toilet, again (as there is another latch on the other side of the door). So many people used the toilet but I was the only one who got locked. Hmph! >.<

Rabbity New Year!
Half invisible, Peace, Wong Fei Hoong, Rabbit and Ultrawomen! Lol!
Evey also had fun meeting our friends. :D

My birthday fell on the 6th day of CNY this year. Steven is sooo sweet, he postponed his appointment to celebrate my birthday with me. He brought me to dinner and a movie. Later, he surprised me with a cake at home. It was a surprise, because he asked me to call his sister not to buy a cake and when we got home, I found the sliding door open. So, ya, I was surprised! :D

Thanks Darling! *Smmmooooch*
;D!

New Car

After 2 weeks of waiting and being "carless", my new ride is finally here! It looks like a tiny replica of Steven's car. I think calling it "Steven's Baby" will be right on the dot! :D

We are so happy that we got this car, it's powerful even though it's only 1.1CC. I am looking forward to many more adventures on the road with this wonderful lil thing. :)
